Paris, Chez Mérigot et cie, 1755; in-4, approx. 550 pp. per volume, contemporary full marbled calf bindings, ornate smooth spines, painted edges. All 3 volumes. The Spectator was one of the first English periodicals, appearing daily from 1711 to 1712. The Spectator was very popular, and was reprinted many times during the 18th century. It took an ironic look at English society and left a lasting impression on the press thanks to its novelty.
