HIPPOCRATE - Hippocratis medicourum omnium facile principis, opera omnia. Frankfort, Chez Daniel David Aubrio, 1621; in-folio, portrait on back cover, 12 ppnch. + 1344 pp. + note and index, bound in full contemporary red morocco, spine decorated with 6 nerves, gilded edges, fillets on covers with Duseuil-style decoration. Highly esteemed edition by Antoine Foesio. Greco-Latin edition of this great medical text. Hippocrates of Kos, or simply Hippocrates, born around 460 B.C. on the island of Kos and died around 377 B.C. in Larissa, was a Greek physician and philosopher of the Periclean century, traditionally considered the "father of medicine". He founded the Hippocratic school, which intellectually revolutionized medicine in ancient Greece. He made medicine distinct and autonomous from other fields of knowledge, such as theurgy and philosophy, and established it as a profession in its own right.
