As a reminder, Blondel was the architect who designed the surroundings of Metz Cathedral. Jacques-François Blondel was the great professor of architecture of the 18th century. Once rejected by the Royal Academy of Architecture, he compensated by opening a private school. Jacques-François Blondel wanted to "modernize" the teaching of architecture, but his references were, to say the least, archaic. His architect of reference is François Mansart.
